If your problem has become chronic (more than a year) ,resistant to medication and reduces significantly your quality of life, you may have an indication. For more details, check the “Facts&Figures” about Parkinson, Neurogenic Pain and Essential Tremor.

There is no age limit: we treat from adolescence to senior age, taking into account the general medical, neurological and psychological states of health.

There is first a 1-day ambulatory diagnostic assessment with clinical and neurophysiological (EEG) examinations. If the indication is confirmed, 5 days (Monday to Friday) will cover the preparation, performance and immediate follow-up of the FUS treatment. Before the treatment, there will be a CT and an MR examination, an internal medical check-up as well as a detailed information session with Dr. Jeanmonod for you and your family. We perform routinely follow-up controls at 3 and 12 months.

The treatment is performed in our center in Solothurn in close collaboration with Rodiag Radiology Institute and the Private Clinic Obach.

We perform follow-up controls at 3 and 12 months. For patients coming from distant countries, we often organize a remote data collection using drawings and videos after 3 months. After 12 months, there is a more detailed clinical and EEG assessment in our center.

There is a low risk profile, mainly comprising a bleeding risk in the target, which can be estimated at less than 1%. The risk of collateral damage to structures around the target is significantly reduced by the real-time monitoring of the thermal work, the absence of mechanical brain shift and the published targeting accuracy (average: 0.5mm). Long term negative effects of the ultrasound lesioning process can be excluded thanks to the fact that it is a thermocoagulation, the long term innocuity of which has been demonstrated by more than 50 years of functional neurosurgical activity using radiofrequency thermocoagulation.

Long term results of the focused ultrasound treatments are not yet available. However, as the targets we use are exactly the same as the ones we have developed and used over more than 20 years applying the electrode penetration technique with radiofrequency , the same long term results can be expected for all our ultrasound treatments, a fact already confirmed by our one-year results.

Multiple sclerosis cannot be treated neurosurgically but only medically. However, neurogenic pain (particularly trigeminal neuralgia) and action tremor, which may arise in the context of this disease, can be treated by focused ultrasound.
